If your current home is no longer meeting the needs of your family, you may think that moving is your only option. Unfortunately, though, the housing market is high, and homes are selling fast. But this does not mean that you cannot get the space your family needs. A home construction project can help give you the space you need. Here are a few home addition projects that can help to increase the size of your home.
If you have multiple people living in your home, one or two bathrooms may not be enough. Bathrooms do not take up a lot of space, so they can often be added to even smaller homes or spaces. But, you do need to be aware that bathrooms require plumbing, so if that potential space does not already have the required plumbing, adding a bathroom can be pricey.
Extra or Bonus Rooms
Another way to add more space to your home is to add another bedroom or a bonus room. A bonus room can be used for many different purposes, including an office, playroom, man cave, living room for teens or just another living space for the family. Bonus rooms are typically constructed in finished attics or basements. But if you have the space, one can be added on the back of your home as well.
A sunroom is a thin space that can be added on to the front or back of your home. This type of room typically does not take up a lot of space. But it does give you a nice little nook to enjoy your morning coffee, read the newspaper or a book or sit at the end of the day with a glass of wine. If you need a space to relax in, a sunroom may be the perfect fit.
If you live in an older home, you may not have a true master suite. Older homes tend to have smaller master bathrooms, and many do not have a connected bathroom. If you want more space in your home, consider adding on a master suite. This gives you an extra bedroom, while also giving you a luxurious retreat.
Two Story Additions
The last way to increase the size of your current home is to build up. If you have no space to expand outward, you can expand upward by adding a second or even third story to your home. This can give you a whole new level filled with rooms and living space.
