Remodeling Your Bathroom Part 2 of 6: Selecting Your Toilet
When you are completing a bathroom remodeling project, you may need to select a new toilet for the space. Most people do not realize that there are different types, sizes, and shapes of toilets available. As such, they have no idea what to look for when they need to select a toilet during their remodeling project. Here are a few of the factors that you need to consider when you are selecting a new toilet.
Toilet Size and Shape
When you are selecting a toilet, one of the first decisions you will have to make is the toilet size and shape. You may not have thought much about it, but toilets come in different sizes and shapes. Most toilets are either round, measuring about 28 inches from the wall, or elongated, measuring up to 31 inches from the wall. In addition to selecting the size and shape of your toilet, you need to consider the rough-in length and location. Most rough-ins measure about 12 inches from the wall, but some can be 10 or 14 inches. The location of the rough in relation to the wall can affect what type of toilet can fit in your bathroom space.
Another important factor to consider when selecting a toilet is the toilet style. A two-piece toilet system is the most common, and it features a toilet with a tank that bolts on to the top of the bowl. Another option is a one piece toilet. With this type of toilet, the tank and bowl are connected. This is typically more costly but provides a seamless, clean look. The last option is a wall-mounted toilet. This type of toilet is mounted to the wall, rather than sitting on the floor of a bathroom.
The last factor to consider when you are selecting a toilet for your bathroom is how the toilet flushes. There are many different ways a toilet can flush, including with a handle on the tank, a button on the tank or even automatically with a sensor. You can also select water-efficient models that release less water when you flush or have a dual-flush options, helping you to do your part to conserve water.
